Closing a Study

Printer-friendly version

Overview

A study's Principal Investigator (PI) is responsible for closing their study as soon as it has been completed. Student PIs who wish to transfer their study to another PI must complete the transfer before the study expires.

Implications of Closing Your Study

Once a study is closed, no further research related activities can occur. This includes data collection, data analysis, interaction with study subjects for research purposes, etc.

When to Close a Study

A study should only be closed when:

  • The Student PI has successfully defended their dissertation and it has been accepted by the dissertation committee;
  • The Student PI's Thesis has been accepted by their Review Committee;
  • The Student PI has fully completed their Honors Project;
  • The Student PI will be graduating and the study will not continue once the PI has left Rutgers;
  • Data Analysis is fully complete;
  • The study has been accepted for publishing;

If the situations above have not been met, the study should be kept open.
